Q: What is a Charter School?
A: A tuition-free public school that offers an alternative to the regular public school. In exchange for great flexibility from the state in how we teach, charter schools are accountable to the state for measurable student success.

Q: What is a Charter School?
A: Anyone who is eligible to go to any other public high school in New Mexico.

Q: I’m not a “straight-A” student. Could I survive at ALHS?
A: Yes, if you like to learn and take an active role in your education. You must be prepared to be academically challenged and work hard to complete all of your assignments.

Q: Who would not make a good ALHS student?
A: Someone who is intellectually lazy, who does not want responsibility for his or her own education, or who is looking for the easiest way out of high school.

Q: How many students are there?
A: About 100 total in grades 9-12.

Q: What about sports?
A: Our students play on sports teams with Silver High and Cobre High, depending on where they live.

Q: Is there bus service?
A: No, but arrangements may be made through Corre Caminos. The school bus is only used for school trips and events.

Q: Can I change my mind after I start?
A: Yes, you may withdraw at any time.

Q: What is the daily schedule?
A: Monday- Thursday classes start at 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, or 10:30 depending on your specific electives. School is out at 3:25, 4:25, or 5:25 again depending on your specific classes. Friday is for all-day projects (internships and Community Orientation). School trips may include Saturdays and Sundays.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: You need to fill out and submit a lottery application form.  Your name will be assigned a random number, the numbers will be put in the lottery and numbers will be drawn until we reach our capacity of 120 students.
